Prayer is vital for Bible translation from start to finish. We know that "if the Lord does not build the house, its labourers labour in vain.” (Psalm 127.1)

Every stage and aspect of the work cannot thrive without a foundation of prayer:

Translation starts with identifying prospective translators in connection with local churches or community leaders. These then need to be trained effectively. As they learn and translate, the trainee translators need perseverance, often in the face of spiritual opposition, health issues, and limited resources.

As translation drafts are tested for clarity and naturalness with community members we need God's wisdom. When Bible translation consultants check draft translations for faithfulness to the text they need wisdom. The people for whom the translation is intended need to know the transforming power of God's word in their lives as they read or listen to it.

Oswald Chambers said, "Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work."
